K9 Memorial Garden
The Memorial Garden was the precursor to the establishment of the Minneapolis Police K9 Foundation; a memorial to all the dogs, past and present, who have been and are devoted and loyal. The dogs are important, protective partners with the officers and deserve to be recognized as such. After the humble (very humble) beginning of the Memorial Garden, the Sergeant in charge of the K9 Unit agreed to the proposed idea of a foundation to supplement the city supplied budget of the K9 unit.
From there, we worked on the further development of the garden and the foundation. Many volunteers from the community have had a role in the development of the Memorial Garden. Plants, materials, and many hours of labor were donated. The Memorial Garden is an ongoing project, in transition, but always a tribute to the faithful canines.
